The image Edmond Belamy was created using a machine learning algorithm that scanned historical artwork.
It was made by a trio of three 25-year-old French students, that call themselves 'Obvious', using a code borrowed from a man named Robbie Barrat.

Members of the AI art community feel very uneasy about the whole situation and say whatever changes Obvious made must be minor and they should not attain all of the credit.
The portrait was auctioned at Christie's, a 252-year-old auction house, and outdid its expected sale price by $425,000. The anticipated price was between 7 and $10,000 but it was sold for a massive $432,500 to an anonymous party.
